How’s it going, guys?

A rather timid start to the season for our two protagonists, each relative to their own level, of course.

Let’s start with Mr. Fritz. The American is in one of those phases where he’s missing that little something some people call mojo. Not super motivated, or not quite ready yet, or maybe worn out… Whatever it is, he’s not the real Fritz we know. The foundations are there, and they already give him a good level. But if, like last year, you play a Monfils en fuego, well my guy, you’re going out! Can Val pull it off? Eh, the Frenchman isn’t in great shape either. It’s not easy starting tournaments against top 50 guys now. And also, a crappy match-up for me. Exactly what Val doesn’t need: good server + no errors from the baseline. He tends to go for more, to go for too much. So unfortunately I don’t have much hope for our big-hearted Frenchman. If he’s having a great day though, there’ll be something to do, but I don’t believe it. Not yet…
