A certain logic?

The gap in the standings isn’t big, but in my opinion a favorite is already emerging.

Fearnley has been a bit out of it for several months now, he’s winning few matches even if he did wake up a bit during the indoor season as usual. It seems like he needs perfect conditions for his game, I don’t know if that’s exactly what’s causing all his double faults but even in rallies he doesn’t seem able to maintain a consistent level of play. His start to the year is honestly not good at all, just one win in 4 matches and even in that win he was a break down in both sets, far from dominant. As for his losses, I can tell you his level was dramatic, between his serving issues and his wandering in the rallies, I’m really worried.

On the other side, Majchrzak is quietly continuing his steady progress, he’s climbing up the rankings and playing pretty well every time we see him. He took advantage of his LL status in Brisbane to make the quarterfinals and put up a great fight against Medvedev, and since he hasn’t played another match since then he’ll be fresh! The match-up is rather in his favour in my opinion, he’s much smarter and more patient than Fearnley and also much more confident. He’s going to make him work really low over the net with lots of angles, which is a pain to attack. The Brit is going to have to surpass himself and suddenly find his tennis again if he wants to have any hope of getting through this. Honestly I don’t believe it at all, but it almost seems too good to be true...
