David versus Goliath
The kind of match that’s really tricky to analyze
First good news for the Argentinian, they only play on Tuesday. He had to string quite a few matches together in Auckland and an extra day off is something important in this context. Exceptional start to the season for the Argentinian, who is really playing his best tennis.
On GMP’s side, it’s not bad either, more classic I’d say. He seems to have regained some confidence and a bit of his clutch side by handling the ends of matches well, but other than that I haven’t seen any significant improvements in his game.
I really like Baez but here we’re apparently looking at a slightly unfavorable match‑up against such a big server, since he’s less able to protect his own serve, which is his weakness. That said, he’s just beaten Fritz and Shelton, who are two huge servers, which is a somewhat encouraging sign even if GMP will bring something different.
With the team we tend to say you have to back GMP when he’s the underdog and lay him when he’s the favorite, let’s see the odds.
