Russian creativity or aggressive German rigor?

The Russian player Selekhmeteva is a clay-court specialist who mainly plays on the Challenger and ITF circuits. I’ve been following her regularly and she really stepped up in 2025, breaking into the top 100. A former top-10 junior, she has two major junior doubles titles as well as two junior Grand Slam semifinals in singles. A solid foundation, later confirmed by a quarterfinal in Prague in 2024.

She’s still a very clay-oriented profile, but she’s showing good feel on hard courts. Her game is complete, creative, and varied, with that left-handed touch that can be troublesome. However, she doesn’t have much Grand Slam experience and is playing her first main draw here through direct qualification.

Seidel started her season poorly, but she has already beaten Oksana comfortably in the past. The German will be playing in optimal conditions here and can boast a few big-name wins in 2025, on top of three hard-court quarterfinals. An interesting match-up, with a player more accustomed to the very highest level facing another who is still in the process of confirming her potential.
