Limited Information
Both players absolutely cruised in their opening rounds...
Shapovalov beat Bu, who injured himself in the second set and wasn't able to pose any sort of challenge after that. Still, we have to give Shapovalov props, he did his part extremely well - especially the serving... 19 aces and 0 double-faults, that has got to be the first for Shapovalov, especially since it's not indoors! Cilic absolutely embarrassed Altmaier, who got married in the off-season and has yet to come back from his honeymoon. Just to tell you how bad it is, Altmaier lost 25 games in a row in his last match against Munar and in the first sets against Cilic (0-6, 0-6). And that's on hardcourts, that is absolutely nuts. It's true that Cilic definitely has a game to really mess with Altmaier; he can simply rush him on courts like this. Nonetheless, surely a confidence boost for the Croatian, who seemed quite happy, motivated, and encouraged in his post-match interview.
Now, we are unlikely to see such a one-sided match when these two face off, right? They both have good serves and firepower that should allow them to hold their own serves more than their opponents did ;) Conditions will be quite cool, possibly with some wind. Both players tend to be better when facing opponents without a big serve or power, since they are quite good at dictating play. Neither player is great at returning, and the wind could become another chaotic factor, especially for Shapovalov...
