BOOM BOOM
Power in its purest form!
Great match-up between two players who shine through their power, whether on serve or in rallies, it’s going to hit hard! Wawrinka is coming off an excellent Australian Open, he doesn’t want to play his last season as a future retiree but as a major actor on court, and he’s proven that physically he’s still very much at the level. So it really makes you want to trust him, he’ll be hard to beat in every tournament, especially given the support he’s going to get! Indoors is really not his best surface historically, he likes having time to set his feet and let his arm go, and the fast, choppy nature of indoor rallies doesn’t really suit him. Over time he’s managed to adapt and he can play good matches on it without any problem, with his serve quality and power he’s got the weapons to do damage.
On the other side we’ve got a formidable indoor player, Medjedovic has already made two finals in indoor ATP 250s, he’s terribly annoying to play in these conditions. His serve is massive and he’s incredibly powerful in rallies too, he’s bad when it’s too hot or when matches are long, indoors it’s the complete opposite, so he’s one of the potential dark horses in my opinion BUT mentally he has big issues that Stan could exploit..
Indeed Medjedovic is still mentally unstable, he can snap and get angry at any moment and he handles the ends of sets very poorly in general, the complete opposite of Wawrinka, who could really make his experience count. For a first meeting between these two players, I see Medjedovic as more complete on this surface and with a higher peak level, but with the risk of completely blowing up mid-flight.. If Medjedovic is priced too low then I’d go with Stan, but if we’re getting close to a coin flip then I’m taking Medjedovic.
