How lucky, this second chance!
Blanchet is picked as a Lucky Looser and ends up playing against a qualifier..
Very tense and nervous during his loss in the final qualifying round today, Blanchet. He started well before collapsing and basically giving away the third set. I'm not a huge fan of the Frenchman indoors, I find him very good but when he has time; his grips are closed and he likes having time and a fairly high bounce to set up his game. Then he does try to adapt and pulls off some nice things offensively, but let's say he plays better outside of indoor conditions. Up against a player who likes to take time away and who has a perfect net game, it’s likely to be tough.
Vavassori isn’t just a doubles specialist! In fact, the Italian already said in Australia that he’d trained seriously and wanted to take another serious shot at singles, which isn’t stupid given that every time he plays singles tournaments he’s really good. Big serving quality, exceptional net game, reliable forehand and slice backhand, simple but effective. He knows how to be patient too, I saw him work his points with volume and height in qualifying, he’s hard to beat and he’d already shown that in Adelaide. Coming through qualies and beating Diallo, he can play at a good level, higher than Blanchet’s, yes..
