The right time to pull yourself together
Adrift for several months, Griekspoor returns to his beloved indoor courts with Rotterdam in his sights...
5 straight losses and a very worrying start to the year for Griekspoor, the Dutchman didn’t look very motivated. That’s an important factor with him to gauge his level; his motivation matters a lot. I’m quite hopeful we’ll see him much more involved on his favorite surface and at his favorite tournament next week, he has to prepare well for it. He’s still a real threat indoors with the quality of his serve and his overall game. He’s far more comfortable than a Carreno Busta, for example; the Spaniard does what he can but you can feel it’s not really a surface that suits his game. He’s coming off a pretty solid win against Kecmanovic despite a choke at the end of the match that could have cost him dearly. He conceded 15 aces against Kecma and Griekspoor is supposed to be twice as good on serve, I’m worried for the Spaniard on return.
I can understand that Griekspoor’s form is scary, but I like what he said after his loss in Australia: he’s training well and feels the ball well in practice. He still has to manage to translate that into matches, but I expect him to get back to a good level.
