Momentum versus experience
Facing a very confident Gea, Mannarino could be drawn into a long and very hard-fought match in Montpellier.
Manna is reborn this week with a magnificent win over Humbert, which confirms his good first-round performance. His serve is working really well and you can feel that the fast conditions suit him, it was really the very best version of Manna at the start of this tournament, the one we hadn’t seen since last summer. Gea, for his part, is keeping his momentum going with favorable circumstances so far, since he has benefited from two consecutive retirements, but it’s important to note that he was in a favorable position both times in those two matches.
First official meeting between these two on tour, but they did play in club league matches this winter, with Gea winning 7/5 6/3. I’m obviously putting that match into perspective because we know that motivation levels can be very random in that type of event.
