An easy first round for Tauson..
The match-up offers a striking contrast between two schools: Siniaková’s tactical science and XXL counter-moves versus Tauson’s devastating ball-striking power. Kateřina has one of the best counter games on tour, a skill directly linked to her dominance in doubles. Her ability to read trajectories and use the opponent’s ball speed to change directions is pure poison for aggressive players. She knows how to ‘spoil’ rallies with low, skidding slices and improvised forays to the net that completely break the rhythm. Tauson arrives in Doha with far more match rhythm in her legs than the Czech, who hasn’t played since the AO and has just lost her world No. 1 doubles ranking to the Belgian Mertens! Tauson will maintain her usual effectiveness on serve and will only leave crumbs to a Siniaková who, in singles, often struggles to sustain her intensity over the full length of a match against Top 20 players. The Dane’s firepower now seems too consistent to be contained by tactics alone. The loss against the young prodigy Bejlek in no way tarnished her serving qualities, quite the opposite. It was simply a strong momentum swing for the youngster, for whom everything was working, and her lefty variety eventually got the better of the Dane at the end of a marathon match.
