Ready? Serve!
We should see some aces in this match...
GMP had a very unusual injury in Montpellier as he literally shot himself in the eye when missing a backhand volley. Nothing serious, but it was completely impossible to keep playing after that with blurred vision.
Before the incident it was still a very average set that he was going to lose 6–3 against Gea. I’m more and more disappointed with this player; I find that his serve is working less well than in 2024 and from the baseline there’s no progress. He has just split with his coach as well, which is not good news because in my opinion Planque is really excellent. On Griekspoor’s side, he got his first win on the board in Montpellier with an authoritative victory over Carreno before losing to Droguet, who played an excellent match. I think Griekspoor went to Montpellier to rebuild his confidence after a complicated start to the year and that his real target is here, as very often. In any case I found him good in Montpellier, you can see he’s feeling the ball really well and I expect him to be dangerous here.
He had a small shoulder scare at the end of the match against Droguet, which would be my only slight concern, but even if there is a minor issue, I think he’ll grit his teeth to shine at home.
