Midon is coming out of qualies, he’s a young 21-year-old Argentinian I’m discovering and to be honest it’s pretty basic. He’s got the classic profile of an Argentinian clay-courter, he builds his points well and doesn’t make many errors, but he doesn’t particularly stand out from what I’ve seen. But his 2026 results are quite promising in my opinion, he only loses to guys I rate on clay, namely Tabilo, Burruchaga, Varillas, Seyboth. He doesn’t have a big win yet, but beating Meligeni and Galán in qualies is impressive – usually they’re the ones coming through qualifying! So Midon is definitely someone to take seriously.

Martinez is going to have to get his act together if he doesn’t want to get caught out. He steamrolled a Challenger at the start of the year but against weak opponents, and since then he’s been taking little beatdowns and really not playing well. I don’t get his schedule either, he could’ve come to play Rosario and prepare his Golden Swing instead of going to play Montpellier indoors. That’s the first big red flag: even though he’s naturally a clay-courter, this will be his first match of the year on it, while Midon does nothing but play on clay and is coming out of qualies.

The Spaniard may be a much better player on paper, but he’s not at his best right now. He’s also defending a semi-final, and even then there was nothing crazy in terms of results last year: he benefitted from a Schwartzman at the end of his career who was done, then a walkover. I hope the market really pushes on him so we can lay him properly!!
