Humbert out for a stroll?
After his benchmark performance against Medvedev, the Frenchman now has to back it up against the young Den Ouden
Ugo Humbert made a strong impression in the previous round with a superb match against Daniil Medvedev. Even in slow conditions, which are not necessarily ideal for his offensive game and his early ball striking, the Frenchman managed to raise his level, take measured risks, and impose his rhythm. He showed a lot of mental toughness and real quality in execution, even in long rallies that don’t naturally play to his strengths.
On paper, this second round looks like a much more manageable step. On the other side of the net, Guy den Ouden is making full use of his wild card. The young Dutchman seized his chance by beating a very average Marton Fucsovics, far from his best level. He played freely, without pressure, and showed seriousness to go and get that win. But the context changes radically when facing a player of Humbert’s calibre.
The Frenchman has all the weapons to prevail without too much difficulty in this kind of matchup. His serve, his returning ability, and above all his capacity to accelerate can quickly put Den Ouden under pressure. Even in slow conditions, Ugo has shown that he knows how to adapt his game, construct points more patiently, and not rush. The only slight concern is the minor foot discomfort noticed during the match against Medvedev. Nothing very alarming at this stage, but it is something to keep an eye on. If everything is fine physically, Humbert clearly has what it takes to control proceedings and logically confirm his status as the favorite.
