Humbert in control, ADM under pressure

A semi-final more open than it seems

Ugo Humbert is putting together an excellent week, despite the slow conditions, which are not necessarily the most natural for his game. It all started with a very big match against Daniil Medvedev, a statement win that allowed him to completely open up his draw. After that, the Frenchman handled things perfectly with two fully controlled matches against Guy Den Ouden and Christopher O'Connell. Little time spent on court, little energy wasted, Humbert reaches the semifinals fresh, confident, and with a very stable level of play.

On the other side, Alex De Minaur is having a much more complicated week. The Australian was seriously pushed by Botic Van de Zandschulp and only just scraped through with great difficulty. In that match, as well as the previous one against Stan, his forehand proved more erratic than usual, with a fluctuating shot quality. He himself admitted he isn’t feeling the ball very well in these indoor conditions, which shows in his offensive game and his ability to finish points quickly.

Tactically, De Minaur is of course still a very difficult opponent to handle. His defensive skills, speed, and ability to get one more ball back naturally disrupt Humbert’s game, as he likes to take control of the rally. But given the indoor conditions, the momentum of the week, and the confidence level of both players, this matchup seems much more open than the odds might suggest.

Humbert comes in with clear reference points, solidly structured tennis, and real mental calm. De Minaur, on the other hand, still has to deal with imperfect sensations and a level of play that is less consistent than usual. In this specific context, the Frenchman seems to have a genuine chance to come out on top, and the value clearly appears to be on his side today.
