Lehecka searching for reference points against Brooksby in terms of rhythm
Lack of continuity on one side, encouraging momentum on the other
Jiri Lehecka arrives in Doha with a season that’s still hard to decipher. His start to the year was clearly disrupted by physical issues, which prevented him from stringing matches together and finding real continuity in his game. At this stage, the main goal is simply to really kick off his season, but it’s always tricky to expect a fully polished performance when a player is still lacking rhythm and competitive reference points.
On the other side of the net, Jenson Brooksby has a rather surprising schedule, with a quick turnaround between the Dallas tournament and this trip to the ATP event in Doha. In Dallas, he played a very good match against Tommy Paul, losing, of course, but showing a very encouraging level of play. Brooksby therefore arrives with confidence and more match rhythm than his opponent, two factors that can weigh heavily against a Lehecka who is still in the process of getting back into form. The Czech clearly has higher potential on paper, but without physical guarantees or recent continuity, it’s hard to imagine him performing at his best right away in these conditions.
In this context, Brooksby appears as an interesting underdog. His ability to mix things up, break the rhythm, and hang in the rallies can cause real problems for a Lehecka who is still finding his footing. It’s a match that could be much more open than the billing suggests, with the American someone to watch very closely.
