Favorable draw but fragile confidence for Fucso

Habib without reference points, but an invitation to play with freedom

Once again, Marton Fucsovics benefits from a rather soft draw for this first round in ATP Doha. Yet last week was a reminder that a favorable draw guarantees nothing. In Rotterdam, the Hungarian failed to take advantage, losing to Guy Den Ouden after a very average match, both in terms of level of play and attitude. It was a worrying defeat, marked by a lack of intensity, few tactical solutions, and an overall impression of nervousness.

On the other side of the net, Hady Habib comes in with a very negative dynamic. The Lebanese player is in totally poor form and still hasn’t won a single match in 2026. The results aren’t there, the confidence isn’t either, and his current level clearly doesn’t work in his favor heading into this encounter.

Strictly speaking in theoretical terms, the gap in level between the two players is significant. Fucsovics has far more experience, power, and solidity in his game. But the context considerably tempers this hierarchy. Habib will want to make the most of his wildcard to try something, with no pressure, against an opponent who hasn’t been reassuring lately. In this kind of situation, the invited player can sometimes free himself up, take risks, and make the match more uncomfortable than expected for the favorite.

All in all, this match-up is quite tricky to read. Fucsovics is still the better player on paper, but his recent lack of reliable form prevents any real confidence. Habib, for his part, is far from his best level, but his status as a complete underdog could allow him to play with more freedom.
