Michelsen, a safe bet, or Korda, who’s really improving?

Michelsen played a solid match in the wind against a Vacherot who kind of ruined it for himself. Nothing to go wild about, then, but that mental toughness from the American is still there. On Korda’s side, Marcos was a bit worried about his schedule, with the added change in conditions between Dallas and Delray, and he was right. Korda got pushed around, but he now has this newfound mental stability that allowed him to pull ahead of McDonald at the end of each set. That needs to be pointed out. And so I’m kind of stuck between two chairs for this match because, while I think Michelsen is more solid, I also like the controlled aggression Korda is playing with now. Their last (and only) official meeting was earlier this year in Brisbane. Korda was a bit burnt out, and Michelsen was playing really well. Korda almost pushed it to three sets, but Michelsen won in two. Today, I think things are more balanced. Korda looks happier on court and he’s now used to the conditions. He’ll be less precise from the baseline and his game will be less effective than indoors, but I also like it when he ‘soaks up the pressure.’ So I’m expecting a good battle with Michelsen logically the favorite here.
