Rigor or passion
Interesting encounter between two profiles who would do well to take inspiration from each other ;)
Ah I’m teasing, but it’s true that Nakashima could put a bit more craziness and expressiveness into his game, and Wong could put a bit more structure into his. Just through his intensity changes alone, I can see Wong losing at least one set against the serious Nakashima. I’m completely torn here between “Nakashima for sure, he showed me again a great, conquering image in his R1” and “if there’s one guy who can do it, it’s Wong.” I’m putting my money on this, I know I’m going to pick Nakashima, but not at just any odds. And I don’t have 100,000 explanations. If Borges had managed to maintain his level from the second set, he probably would have beaten Wong. Wong has brilliant phases, but he exposes himself to more risk with his style than Nakashima does. And Nakashima has just proven that he can handle Cilic’s rockets just fine, so yeah...
