A feat to digest and slow conditions for an indecisive duel in Doha

Mensik has just pulled off a huge upset by dominating Jannik Sinner. A performance built around exceptional serving quality, with great consistency on first serves, and a forehand far more powerful and reliable than in his previous outings.

When he manages to maintain this level of controlled aggression, Mensik is capable of competing with the very best on hard courts.

However, there remains a key factor in this type of scenario: backing it up. Beating Sinner is an enormous emotional and physical high, and it’s never easy to immediately reproduce the same intensity the next day. Managing energy, focus, and recovery will be crucial, all the more so as the match will be played quite late, like the day before, in rather slow conditions in Doha. These conditions require more patience and point construction, which can take a toll after such an intense battle.

On the other side of the net, Arthur Fils produced a very high-level match against Lehecka. Clean, aggressive when needed, much more tactically disciplined, the Frenchman is confirming his progress and is slowly getting back to his best level. His serve did damage, his forehand often got the upper hand in rallies, and above all he showed real mental toughness in the key moments.

Under these conditions, we can expect a tight match. Mensik comes in with huge confidence but also potentially a bit of fatigue, while Fils seems to be building momentum with each round. Both players have offensive weapons capable of making the difference on their own serve, which limits the chances of one-sided sets.
