Etcheverry without being convincing?
The Argentinian is NEVER dominant in his matches, a bad habit, but as long as he wins it’s fine, right?
Another little scare for Etcheverry against Gaubas, he wins 7/6 6/4 but the score should have been more one-sided. Let’s say that for once he didn’t drop a set, which hadn’t happened for 4 matches. He just can’t manage to win cleanly even though his level of play is there, in my opinion. His serve is working, his forehand hurts, but he’s missing that little something to really create huge gaps. So he struggles. There’s also huge pressure on his shoulders with all the other seeds losing; on paper he’s the favorite!
A kind of pressure that just doesn’t exist for Faria, the Portuguese is a LL and he’s just pulled off the same trick as in 2025! After a sluggish start against Dzumhur he picked himself up well and has raised his level again. Nice serving quality too, interesting forward-moving game, he’s improving! Against Etcheverry he’s going to suffer from the baseline in long rallies, but he can manage to hold his service games and put pressure on the first few shots! He’s playing well this week and he’s really backed by the crowd as well, it’s a tough opponent waiting for Etcheverry and I think we have to try backing him.
