Immediate rematch

Thursday in Doha, Tuesday in Dubai...

Fils and Lehecka meet again just one week after their clash in Doha. In that match, the Frenchman literally walked all over his opponent, winning very comfortably 6–3 6–3, with clear domination both physically and in the intensity of the rallies. That day, the gap between the two players was particularly striking.

The context, however, is very different today in Dubai. Arthur Fils is coming off a brutal stretch, with a final played on Sunday evening in Doha. The turnaround is very short before playing again here, in new conditions, with a short trip to digest and very little time to adapt. This kind of transition is always tricky, especially after such an emotionally and physically intense week.

The whole analysis of this match therefore hinges on one key point: the Frenchman’s ability to back it up. If he’s fresh, well recovered, and able to immediately produce the same level of intensity, he is clearly the favorite against Lehecka, whom he dominated without discussion a few days ago. On the other hand, if he feels the effects physically or mentally, the balance of power can quickly even out, as the Czech remains a solid player, capable of capitalizing on the slightest drop in pace.

In this context, the doubt is significant enough to call for caution. On pure level, things lean clearly in favor of Fils, but the uncertainties linked to this demanding schedule make any premature stance risky.
