Oh fuck!
Our beloved Gaël is coming back. About time, it’s not like it’s the last season of his career or anything!
Gaël is a bit hard to follow when you’re not in his good books. But for his last season, I’m going to assume he’ll be solid today. Not because I think he’ll be in great physical or tennis form, but because he’ll be super motivated. From a betting point of view, though, it’s a bit trickier, because this matchup against Dzumhur could produce all kinds of scenarios. The Bosnian has been playing better again recently, and we know his style by heart. A night session in 30-degree heat on a not-very-fast surface—we know how that usually goes. We last saw La Monf against Sweeny, an Australian workhorse. The Frenchman struggled a bit to finish points and really impose himself. But I think here he’ll be better physically, which was too much of an issue for him in Australia. And Dzumhur isn’t very powerful, which will give Gaël time to find his rhythm again and, above all, rebuild confidence in his shots. So I think that, despite being in a comeback phase, Gaël will be in good enough shape to have the matchup in his favor, as he often has against this opponent in the past.
