A more favorable context for Kazakh than for Rotterdam

Bublik & Struff faced each other about ten days ago in Rotterdam. The Kazakh came out on top after a tough match, in a context where he didn’t seem particularly confident and was playing in slow conditions that didn’t really suit his game. This hard-fought win, without really shining, nevertheless shows his ability to get through even when he’s not producing his best tennis.

In Dubai, the setting is very different. The conditions are faster, which clearly favors serve and taking the initiative, two key elements in Bublik’s game. The Kazakh has already proven his affinity with this tournament by reaching the final in 2024, a sign that he feels particularly comfortable on these courts. This context should allow him to express himself much more freely than in Rotterdam.

Struff, for his part, will at least have the advantage of already being acclimatized. He played the qualifiers and finally enters the main draw as a lucky loser after his defeat against Virtanen. This preparation gives him rhythm and reference points, but his profile remains more dependent on the quality of his first serve and his ability to shorten rallies. Against an inspired Bublik, I don’t see that being enough very often.

Overall, one would very often expect a win for the Kazakh in this kind of conditions. His offensive potential, creativity, and ease on fast courts are major assets here in Dubai.
