The Yanks
Unexpected encounter with a Kypson who knocks out De Minaur. Will he be able to follow it up?
First meeting between the two men, and we’re wondering whether Patrick Kypson, coming off very strong qualifying matches and having beaten an in-form opponent, will be able to keep up the pace physically and mentally. He always looks a bit weary in his movements, but he has proven that he can hold up physically throughout an entire match. There could be a letdown, but his physical condition shouldn’t be underestimated. Kypson has an aggressive game that works well on this slower surface, allowing him to go on the attack with less risk. He’s in good form, but it remains to be seen whether he can back it up again. Today he’s playing against a player who performed well in the first round in Dallas and Delray Beach, but who has had dips in form afterward. Nakashima doesn’t offer me many certainties because of his fluctuating level. That said, he did play well against a tough opponent. Nakashima could be favored by a slow surface and a playing style similar to Gibson’s, which doesn’t force him to play too much. However, it’s hard to imagine Gibson stringing performances together, and I have doubts about Nakashima. If his performances are too inconsistent, I wouldn’t be very inclined to bet on him.
