Too easy?
I don’t like this kind of match where everything seems to go way too easily for one of the players...
I don't have many arguments on Gaubas' side in this match, let's be clear. The Lithuanian is a lucky loser, he beat a Soto who was really not at ATP250 level, and he took advantage of a slightly burnt/physically diminished Prizmic at the end of the match to turn it around when things didn’t look great for him. I still find him a bit light for this level, but he’s not bad either, he’s mentally strong and never gives up. I’m not convinced he can get through another round though, the guy on the other side should normally be stronger.
I say “normally” because with Hanfmann you always have to be on your guard, he’s lazy and can do anything on a bad day. There are still some big positive signs on his side this week though: first, the altitude gets him going, he loves playing in these conditions and plays his best tennis there. Then he’s just had two very clean first rounds, which isn’t necessarily usual for him; here he is in the quarters with a great chance to reach the semis, he just can’t serve up a crap match with a bad attitude tomorrow, I don’t believe it!
I find him really strong in these conditions and properly motivated, whereas on the other side it’s really not convincing at all and normally weaker; like I said, everything points towards Hanfmann, including the odds I imagine?
