I left my favorite Giron during this Golden Swing but I’m happy to see him again!

Not much since the AO for Giron: a loss to Fritz in a deciding tie-break, a win over Shimabukuro (who’s in good form), and a tight loss against Ruud. I think we can say it’s positive despite the lack of wins! The only black mark is his withdrawal from Acapulco without giving any reason, which is worrying – we’re talking about an ATP 500 and he’d had days to prepare for it. I have to say that without that info I was really keen on backing Giron even at a very low price, but yeah, we need to calm down. Because on the other side of the net it’s an extremely poor Navone who hasn’t put one foot in front of the other since the start of the year.

At the end of last year he played a bunch of Challengers, which is cool, but in 2026 he only has 2 wins for 6 losses. And were those wins any good at least? A win over Nava, who was coming back from a long Davis Cup trip and basically gave the match away, then a win over Kopriva, who was cooked after his tournament in Rio, so yeah, that’s it! I don’t really know what else to add, he’s going through a rough patch and playing badly, the content of his matches is pretty worrying – he’s making a ton of unforced errors and seems to have lost his tennis. I’m exaggerating a bit, but that’s how it feels when I watch him play. So while last year we liked the match-up against Giron, it wasn’t the same player to me; now he’s coming in terrible form and with zero confidence, while Giron is playing good tennis and only losing to top players while putting in solid performances. The gap is massive, and if Giron isn’t injured, it should show.
