Ready to catch fire
Awesome R1 between the Brazilian Fonseca, who’s backed by an entire nation, and the man for the big matches, Collignon!
We haven’t really seen the big Fonseca yet, he’s still in the process of getting back into it after a season start that was pushed back because of a back injury. For the Golden Swing it was pretty poor to be honest, between pressure and a game level still warming up he didn’t show his best side. We’re expecting him to ramp up; with what he’s got in his arm there’s not too much concern about him, but you also have to judge him on his current level. I don’t necessarily want to lay him, but depending on the opponent and the odds I’m considering it!
His opponent is Collignon, and it’s honestly not a good draw. The Belgian is really on the rise and keeps dominating Challengers while also backing it up on the main tour every time he shows up. He’s excellent every time I see him, and on top of that he’s got an insane mentality. He loves big matches with a lot of atmosphere, he’s already silenced players who are much better than him on paper while they were playing at home. If I have to judge based on current level I give the edge to Collignon, but there’s a small indoor/outdoor transition to deal with, and we saw in qualies that guys in the same situation struggled a bit. The other thing to factor in is that Fonseca will play better and better with each match and that he’s a better player than Collignon when both are at their peak...
