Good for filling the stands :)
Venus Williams comes in with the unconditional support of the American crowd, which could galvanize her steel-strong mentality. However, her recent poor performances, such as her collapse in the third set against Olga Danilovic at the Australian Open after leading 4–0, highlight glaring physical limitations at 45 years old. Her power game is still intact in short bursts, but she now struggles to sustain that intensity over the course of a full match, especially against an opponent 22 years younger.
Diane Parry, on the other hand, has the ideal profile to derail the veteran. With her one-handed backhand and sliced variations, the Frenchwoman can break up the rhythm and force Venus into constant lateral movement, which she now struggles to cope with. Already well dialed in after her two qualifying matches, Diane comes in with match sharpness that the American lacks. If she manages to extend the rallies and block out the pressure from the crowd, her physical freshness should logically make the difference against a legend in the twilight of her career.
