Another Czech gem that I invite you to discover!!

A pure product of the Czech school exiled in the NCAA, Darja Viďmanová dominated the college circuit with the Georgia Bulldogs (2025 NCAA champion) before exploding on the pro tour in 2026 with a final at the WTA 125 in Oeiras and a spectacular entry into the top 120. A true star of American college tennis, she’s used to electric atmospheres and high-pressure tennis! Darja Viďmanová arrives in this main draw with the carefree attitude of a newcomer discovering the very highest level in the world with her first WTA 1000! Not bad to start with a 5th Grand Slam :) 7 ITF titles in two years, a 12/17 win rate in 2026 including a semi and a lost final. The qualifying run here is solid with a nice win over Hon!

Darja is 1.91m tall!! A forehand worthy of a Big Weapon, a huge serve, and top-notch mobility for someone her height! But that’s not all! In 2025, she pulled off an extremely rare feat by winning the national team title (with Georgia), the national singles title AND the national doubles title. She is only the third woman in NCAA history to achieve this “Triple Crown.” So seeing her at the net is perfectly normal too! This girl is a rough diamond :)

Cristina Bucșa has just had the best week of her career, winning her very first WTA 500 title in Mérida last Sunday at 28 years old. She strung together impressive wins over Donna Vekić, Zeynep Sönmez, Jasmine Paolini and finally Magdalena Fręch in the final (6-1, 4-6, 6-4). On top of that, she’s going to ship the doubles because she wasn’t tired :)

On the other hand, the danger of a post-win letdown is very real, and the “first title syndrome” could play tricks on her here on a demanding surface and up against a young monster starving for wins! Sure, she’s had 4 days to adjust to her completely new top-30 status. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bit of Spanish loosening up.
