Marcos Giron, after a tough match against the Argentine Navonne, gets through his first round at Indian Wells. Even though the conditions are difficult for him, as we saw last year at Indian Wells where he can’t play with straight trajectories and fine margins of error for an entire match. Despite the support of Constant and Andre Agassi, it’s hard to trust him. If he’s in very good form, his game is strong, but he has to be having an exceptional day to perform flawlessly. On the other side, Mensik, the Czech, who loves counterattacking, has notable talent with the racquet and moves well for his build, in addition to having an impressive serving weapon, is my clear favorite. Mensik’s current form is solid, having played only on outdoor hard courts since the start of the season with many good matches and wins. He rarely loses, and when he does, it’s to in-form opponents. He has at times shown a lack of motivation, but at Indian Wells I’m sure he’ll be at 100%. He then heads to Miami, a tournament he has already won, which reassures me. I’m predicting a win for the Czech, but it will depend on the odds to decide whether there’s a bet to be made here.
