Not bad, this one!
I would’ve loved a night session for this match but we’re not gonna complain!
Big clash incoming; whether you're team Khacha or team Fonseca, we should be in for a treat! Two huge competitors who are going to really go at it, I just hope they both show up! For Fonseca it's pretty much certain, he’s just had an excellent first round and I feel like saying FINALLY. His Golden Swing run was so disappointing, he was tense and lacking rhythm on top of that. This time he played a big first match and even if it was far from perfect, I can’t help but think he’s going to raise his level given what he’s got in that arm and the crowd pushing for him every time. Fonsecrack is back and we can’t wait to see him up against Khacha.
Khachanov is getting in very late from Dubai where he was stuck with his buddies Rublev and Medvedev, and he’s not too optimistic about adjusting on the fly, especially when you compare it to Rublev’s statements – it’s like night and day. And poor Khacha is already going through a rough patch right now with few wins and so many dropped sets. It’s simple: in his 6 wins he’s lost a set 5 times, he’s winning but it’s labored. On paper, these slightly slow conditions with some bounce aren’t bad for him, but his record here isn’t exactly flashy either, there’s a quarterfinal and that’s about it. I’m really not excited by his tennis at all, on top of the off-court context.
Only one head-to-head to chew on, a win for Khacha in Paris last season, but Fonseca was completely cooked after his title in Basel and he still took a set. Despite his recent lack of wins, I see a momentum building and I think there’s a better chance he’ll perform well tomorrow compared to Khacha.
