Can he do it?
Our RBA metronome has the power to throw many good players off their game, even at his age...
Another great performance once again from our friend Agut in his first round, where he made a top player lose his bearings in a match of good quality, and physically he’s holding up without any problem. I’m expecting good performances because the metronome is showcasing his qualities here in conditions he likes. The analysis revolves around Draper, the Brit, who often delays his tournament comebacks so he doesn’t play too early and risk falling back into an annoying injury. The defending champion arrives at Indian Wells and says he wouldn’t play if he weren’t at 100%, but he is the defending champion so he has 1000 points to defend, which helps tip the decision towards playing this tournament. He played in Dubai and it was fine, he lost to a very good Rinderknech, so there’s not really any warning sign regarding the Brit’s level in the Davis Cup. To represent his country, he played again at a very good level even if the opponent was weak. The motivation to defend his title will, in my opinion, bring him to a very good level. The difference for the Spaniard is that his opponent today is less prone to errors and is capable of scraping a lot more balls to keep them in play, and it’s not at all the same style. On top of that, he’s feeling good about stepping on the gas, becoming more and more aggressive to take control of this match. That’s interesting for the Spaniard, and if the player feels good and accelerates, it could hurt. We’ll of course check the game total overs, but in my opinion, it’s not necessarily a match that interests me as much as others.
