Daniel Altmaier shows the worst record of the year! When is he going to wake up?

7 tournaments, 7 losses, 0 wins, four 6–0s taken, no sets won, and to top it all off, a withdrawal at IW, then at Phoenix for “illness.” Well, clearly, it stinks. Maybe he went to Vegas like Bublik to recharge, and now he’s going to play like a top 20? You can feel in his matches that he’s still trying, but it just doesn’t hold up. It kind of smells like depression, burnout, overload. Call it whatever you want.

On Terence’s side, he’s pretty happy to have been in the United States for over a month now. The Frenchman is feeding off the energy here. But you still have to keep a close eye on him. He showed up with a very high level in Acapulco, then at IW he was good, but he already had a bit less of that killer instinct. It was almost like he was happy to lose to Dimitrov. He must have arrived in Phoenix with low ambitions since he went out in straight sets against the hungry young gun Darwin Blanch. But here in Miami, it’s fair to think he’ll be 200% there mentally. I’m a bit worried about the conditions for him though. I like it when he has time to set up his game, and when the court really grabs his lefty topspin.

Against Daniel, his style could really hit the mark because he knows how to weather the storm, land a smack here and there, find angles for you, and above all, pummel your one-handed backhand. When you’re not too confident, there are better things. Still, since I honestly have no idea what’s going on in Altmaier’s camp right now, I’m wary, because we’re not going to get a huge price on the Frenchman either...
