Same match, same context
We’re getting another O’Connell vs Fucsovics after their meeting in R1 at Indian Wells last week, what’s different this time?
Firstly, the conditions; the courts in Miami are much faster. The rest remains the same. O'Connell already made a big impression coming out of qualifying, and that's still the case this week. A bit sluggish against Meijia, then tenacious to overcome a tired Blockx, it's good old O'Connell, winning more and more matches. Yes, but last week he lost in two sets to Fucso. The matchup goes to the Hungarian, who makes fewer errors and who perfectly placed his forehand in that match. He beat Musetti after that and played a respectable match against Arthur. He's in great form, and he's been gaining momentum for a few matches now, but I hadn't quite figured him out. When I think about their match last week I think O'Connell will be able to get a few more free points in Miami, whether on serve or in play, but this argument also applies to Fucso who is serving well at the moment and dictating perfectly with his forehand, I have the feeling that this could change without necessarily being the case.
I highly recommend watching this match live to see if we're seeing the same version of Fucsovics, the one where he plays his aggressive tennis. I'd also pay close attention to his first-serve percentage, just like O'Co's. These are two players who, on an off day, can see their first-serve percentage drop close to 50%, which leaves openings on the return. I predict another victory for Fucsovics, but I think it's going to be a bit closer than last time.
