Enigmatic
Tommy Paul is just completely impossible to follow this year!
Indeed, there’s very little consistency in his level and results. Even his wins in Delray are pretty misleading in my opinion. He’s still a complete player with a fairly good average level, but since I’m not on the inside, it’s impossible to know what’s going on, and even less what kind of shape he’s in for Miami. When he was playing Delray Beach, also in Florida, he was dealing with a certain amount of pressure at the start of his matches because he was playing at home. Here, we’re in Miami, and Manna has nothing to lose. He’s got his favorite status as an underdog, and especially as a guy who’ll be supported by 0.01% of the crowd. His match against Zhang was decent, you can feel that his tennis is there. The question I’m asking myself is what’s going to happen in his head in money time. But I’m asking myself the same question for Tommy Paul... In my opinion, Paul will be a huge favorite, so let’s not overthink it and see what the books are giving us.
