Crossed destinies?
Collignon who is finally back to a decent level and Cobolli who just had a bad match against Tiafoe... QED?
And yes, we're really starting to know our Cobolli well. He can’t manage to keep his level of focus and motivation up for too long. After a nice Delray and a magnificent Acapulco, he needed to let off steam in Indian Wells. Now here in Miami, either it’s the same story, or he’s pulled himself together because we’re at a hot Masters 1000. I’m not looking to throw stones at him, and I think he’ll be at 100% in terms of motivation, but if he plays an average match, I wouldn’t be surprised either ;).
On the other side, the Belgian has regained a bit of confidence by saving a match point against a Dimitrov who wasn’t exactly on fire. He’s got that solid grinder game that could really piss off a hot-headed Cobolli, but wouldn’t be good enough if the Italian is in form. Nevertheless, after this first round that can be seen as a sort of release in a way, I’m expecting a good match from the Belgian, and the books have clearly understood that too...
