The day after...
Two men, each coming off the biggest achievement of their career, now face each other. And now what?
Argh, what a level from both players. A Landaluce who literally made Khachanov look like an amateur, and a Korda who was able to let his incredible talent express itself 100%.
At first glance, I tell myself that anything is possible here. Of course I’m thinking about the mental follow-up for Korda, who we know isn’t exactly a killer. But his period of being solid in the head is starting to last, and his exploit was, in my opinion, seen more as a nice step on his path than as an achievement in itself. And I feel like saying the same for Landaluce who, if he wins today, will pretty much enter the top 100 for the first time in his career.
In terms of match‑up, I immediately think of Korda’s return quality, which really hurt Carlito. In the rallies, Landaluce will have less control than he did against a Khachanov who lacks power. And then, both serve well, but another edge for Korda here. You can imagine a great battle between two pure tennis players, but it’s hard for me to seriously consider a win for the Spaniard here to trigger a bet...
