Another American showdown in the form of a rematch!

Ashlyn has had a difficult start to the 2026 season, but she found her form again during the US swing. She notably reached the semifinals in Austin at the end of February, where she even swept aside Caty McNally (6-1, 7-6) in the first round. She has a powerful game, built on a big serve (59 aces already this season) and an ability to dictate rallies from the baseline.

Caty is variation at its finest; her qualities as a doubles player make her an opponent who often comes to the net and is not easy to break. McNally is trying to regain consistency. While her start to the year has been marked by some brilliant flashes, notably her superb run in Ostrava, she remains more vulnerable on serve. Caty is a touch player, a fan of serve-and-volley and slice, an 'old-school' style that can throw opponents off but requires surgical precision. In Charleston, she won a doubles title in 2021.

McNally’s problem against Krueger is structural: she lacks time. In Austin, Ashlyn managed to pin Caty far behind the baseline, preventing her from coming to the net to finish points. On Charleston’s Har-Tru, the ball skids enough for Ashlyn’s power to remain the dominant factor. If the match turns into a baseline battle, Krueger has the strength to physically wear McNally down.

In the end, Krueger also won Charleston in doubles in 2024 and knows Caty’s game inside out, given that they’ve even played doubles together.
