Rublev dominates Borges quite clearly in the H2H as well as in playing style
3/0 Rublev, 6 sets won and none lost, not even a single 7/5 or 7/6 for Borges to get his teeth into either. The scorelines are straightforward but logical because Rublev dominates this type of match-up. He loves putting insane intensity on the return and smothering his opponents, which Borges hates. The Portuguese struggles on clay as well; he prefers it when it’s fast and the bounce is low so his shots can skid through, he just can’t adapt. His 2026 season has been very average so far and his recent form doesn’t suggest any surge in level. I don’t like what I’m seeing in his matches, and with the clay swing coming up, he could really sink…
For Rublev, apart from the failed Sunshine Double, things have been better this season; he’s getting his level back, and honestly I can definitely see him ramping up over the next few weeks! He’s coming from the UTS but that’s on the side, and in terms of prep we’ve seen that even Humbert, who played earlier, wasn’t affected. He’s got a great track record at this tournament, I love it when conditions are slow and he can hit like a madman for hours, that’s when he can really do damage!
Difference in form and match-up in favor of the Russian, do the odds point that way too?
