Norrie at last?
On paper, Cameron has everything it takes to have a decent tournament in Monte Carlo, but very often, things go differently on the Monegasque rock...
Good "grinder", lives in Monaco, good results on clay last season with notably a final in Geneva against Djoko... But historically, he needs a bit of time to adapt to clay. This year, having lost in R1 in Miami on March 21, I’m thinking he’s been able to put in a good training block on the clay in Monaco. I saw a bit of him in practice today against ADM, but I couldn’t really get much info out of it. I know he’s a guy who runs a lot on motivation, and here I think it will logically be high. He’s even entered in doubles. On slightly heavy clay, his slight lack of power could be an issue, but against Kecmanovic, who hits through the ball, I’m actually rather reassured...
The Serb’s results have gone back to normal: great tennis quality, snatches sets, but ends up losing. He doesn’t have a good record in Monte Carlo either. Logically, you’d expect him to lose in two or in three. Nothing to take away from his practice today against Fucsovics, it was clean. Last year he played yet another kind of fiasco match (surprising, huh) against a Tiafoe who was exhausted from his trip, and still managed to lose. The Monte Carlo clay forces him to grind a bit more and too often, he ends up cracking before his opponent.
