Jannik under close watch
The Italian once again showed worrying physical signs..
Not much energy in the second set after a quick first set though, you can feel that Sinner doesn’t have an exceptional gas tank physically, or maybe it was the “heat” again? Hard to say but it was weird once more, the level isn’t exceptional either, you can tell he’s still getting used to this surface and that he still has to improve on it to fine‑tune his game. Another test is waiting for him tomorrow in the form of FAA, the Canadian is behind in the H2H but generally keeps a bit of solidity against the Italian.
I loved his match against Ruud, super patient and disciplined, he added height to his shots and slowed things down as much as needed until Ruud overdid it. Top performance from the Canadian, something to reproduce tomorrow! With a bit more aggressiveness so he doesn’t let Sinner control the game too much either, but we’ve got a big Felix this week and given the Canadian’s last few months I think he’s capable of hanging in there. I’m not burying Sinner but he’s got something serious coming at him and I didn’t see the Italian looking imperial, he almost seems beatable to me.
He pulled out of doubles due to fatigue before facing Machac and his statements don’t reassure me, I don’t know if he’s carrying something but it looks like it, and if that’s the case we’ll see it again if the match is long and hard-fought.
