Perfect opportunity?
Aren't we in pretty good conditions to lay Bublik here?
Hmm... Yes and no.
Yes, because Alex Molcan has once again become a real menace on clay, and even more so on heavy clay, as we saw in Bucharest, and here in Munich during his brilliantly negotiated qualifying matches.
Yes, because Bublik facing an average player on heavy clay with likely rain interruptions doesn’t exactly scream big motivation.
No, because Bublik found a very serious phase again in Monte Carlo and will therefore likely not take this match lightly and will acknowledge the big risk of facing an opponent like Molcan in these conditions.
It’s simple: if Bublik stays serious the whole way through, his tennis on heavy clay at altitude is honestly very interesting (do I need to remind you of his Gstaad / Kitzbühel combo last year, dropping only a single set).
So I think we have to assume a good level from both players here, and avoid getting carried away pre-match on Molcan, who seems a bit like a false good opportunity.
