Kypson lost to Basilashvili yesterday without playing badly, I’d be wary of him if I were Stefanos...
I think Tsitsipas basically has to watch out for everyone now, the Greek has dropped back down to 80th in the world and his fall could still continue. In his defense I find that he systematically gets crappy draws, but at the same time with his ranking he’s no longer protected and faces seeds in the early rounds; he’s going to have to pull off some big wins to climb back up. Historically Madrid is actually pretty good for him, the high bounce and court speed are nice because they let him really use his serve/forehand combo, but his backhand can suffer. It’s all about confidence and he has none right now. To the point of getting beaten by Kypson?
Hard to believe, but I actually wouldn’t even be surprised given the Greek’s downward spiral. Kypson is an American but he’s got a ton of matches on clay and knows how to play on it, not as well as Stefanos obviously but he manages. Interesting serve quality, a game that adapts well with a bit more volume if needed, and a solid engine physically, Kypson still has some arguments in his favor. So yeah it still looks pretty thin, especially against a guy like Tsitsipas who handles clay extremely well, but the American is a lucky loser and could cling to this second chance.
