A formality for Keys

Madison Keys is 31 years old, plays right-handed, is coached by her husband Bjorn Fratangelo, and since her 2025 Australian Open title has been going through a psychological transition period that she openly acknowledges. She herself has admitted that finding her new normal after that title has been harder than expected, a question of identity as much as results. Her 2026 season reflects this inner questioning, with up-and-down performances. But what hasn’t changed is her evolving relationship with clay. In Charleston she admitted she now almost prefers clay to grass, appreciating the extra time the surface gives her to construct her forehand. Zhang Shuai is 35, ranked far down the list, and no longer has the legs or the level to trouble a player of this caliber on this surface.

There’s not much to say about this match tactically. Keys will dictate the tempo, serve big, attack Zhang’s second serves, and wrap things up quickly.
