A very different seed

Prizmic took out Shelton, but he should expect a completely different match tomorrow against a threat of another kind

Prizmic’s win over Shelton is a nice surprise; the Croat backed up his victory over Berrettini and continues to be highly rated by the betting market. His wins make him the favorite for this match at the time I’m writing, but is that deserved? We’ll look at all that, but by default I often find his odds are shorter than they should be, it’s rare to have value on his side – even against Shelton he was given a lot of respect. Given how many matches he’s won this season and the tournament he’s having, it’s normal for his odds to be low, he’s capable of quietly continuing his run.

On the other hand, as I said, a totally different kind of threat is waiting for him in his next match. Etcheverry isn’t as scary a name as Berrettini or Shelton, but the Argentine might actually be even harder to beat, especially on clay. He never plays blazing, spectacular tennis, but it’s always effective and incredibly solid; he’s almost never bad. Routine first round, but against Ofner, with an erratic profile that’s nothing like Prizmic’s, this next match will be a real test. Still, I get the feeling Etche isn’t really being respected here; he’s got a lot more experience but also more freshness coming into this match. He’s not going to gift Prizmic a single point and he’ll match his solidity from the baseline. Even though I love Prizmic and he’s really performing well in this tournament, he still seems like the underdog to me in this type of matchup.
