We have to keep it going now
Huge match from Tsitsipas, but it's way too rare to believe in a real comeback, right?
The last time Stefanos pulled out a match like that was against ADM in Miami, before getting absolutely thrashed in the next round by Fils. I’d be surprised if he got thrashed tomorrow, because his opponent isn’t as strong as Fils for one thing, but also because the Greek is clearly on the right track to coming back a bit. I’ve said quite a few times that he was unlucky with his recent draws and that his level isn’t as low as people might think. Madrid is an excellent place for him, and he even pointed out that he managed to beat Rafa Nadal here a few years ago, which should be a source of inspiration. Now that he’s just played a big match, all eyes are on him because he HAS to win tomorrow.
Merida is an excellent player but still very young, and you can feel it in the key moments/in how he manages his matches; he’s nervous and tense, as soon as he misses a few points you get the feeling he’s questioning everything, even though he’s playing really well. The talent is massive, he hits very hard and changes the tempo superbly, and this week he’s being carried by an insanely fired-up crowd behind him, and I saw him play some very high-level stretches against Moutet. I also saw that after a set and a half he was really struggling physically; he’s getting close to his limit after already 4 matches and a busy month of April. We can count on the Spaniard to give everything and try once again to turn the match in his favor, but he’s definitely not the favorite.
