What is there to worry about?
Zverev appeared to have a back issue toward the end of his match against Atmane.
Almost perfect match from Z before dropping in intensity at the end and causing concern with his post-match comments; he doesn’t want to say what injury he has, but what keeps coming up a lot is his back. That’s the key point of this analysis; it’s hard to go into detail about the rest when such an injury is involved, especially since there are no rest days. There’s also Roland coming up fast, and if Zverev has the slightest doubt, he’ll withdraw.
To talk a bit about the match-up, it’s the first meeting between the two. I like the fact that Mensik can play on the return in this kind of match, Zverev wants to dictate play and that’s cool. The backhand diagonal between them will be high level; on the forehand side it’ll be more messy since that’s their respective weak point. Mensik played a great match yesterday against Khacha, I liked his attitude and level, and even without Zverev’s injury I think the Czech is capable of bothering him.
