Another winner for Blockx
The Belgian has just knocked out the defending champion in straight sets and will take on Zverev tomorrow, a former title holder as well!!
Another calm win for Blockx, who once again rolled over a top player like it was normal and routine for him. He’s into the semis of a Masters 1000 and it’s a fair reward given his level in recent weeks, the guy is playing like steel and as Ruud said after losing to him, he can do everything: big serve, net play, defense, good reading of the game, it’s complete, and above all this week everything is clicking, he’s in the zone without even forcing. Either he’s going to steamroll everyone and take the title playing the tennis of his life, or he’s going to fall to a player profile that’s more annoying for him. He’s faced different profiles this week and Zverev maybe does everything a bit better, but it’s not a horrible match-up either, he’ll just have fewer points on return.
Be careful not to let Z be on the attack too often though, even if Blockx defends well, we’ve got a more offensive Zverev than before who’s improved in that area, the German wants to dictate. For Blockx to win, it has to come through an offensive game and coming forward to the net/dropping shots, he has to play his own game and go out and grab the match like he’s been doing since the start of the week. Physically he’s had another fairly short match and doesn’t seem mentally affected by what’s going on either, it’s perfect.
Zverev is the strongest opponent he’s faced so far, the German is ramping up and remains the big favorite, but with Blockx anything is possible.
