Reason or feeling?
Everything suggests a Blockx victory, but I wonder if this might be the right time to back Griekspoor.
Only one win on clay for Griekspoor, and it came last week. Is it too early to say that now he’s going to really kick off his clay season? Personally, I think his recent losses are quite logical for several reasons. The main one is that he’s coming back from injury; he needs to find his rhythm again. And getting that rhythm back straight away with matches on clay, given his playing style, isn’t easy. I also think he’s come up against a few tricky matchups for him, which doesn’t help him when it comes to winning matches.
I liked those matches in Madrid and I think he’s going to gain momentum over the next few weeks. I can obviously understand that it’s not enough, especially when you see the form Blockx is in on the other side of the net.
The Belgian needed a set to adapt to the new conditions before rolling over a Sinner who actually wasn’t that bad. I think the conditions this week are still very good for him. Let’s not forget he likes staying back and making his opponents play. On paper, that can cause problems for Griekspoor. But be careful not to let the Dutchman play too much, as he’s very strong with his serve–forehand combo and his forays to the net.
