Cerundolo has just played a really high-level match against Tabilo, whereas Loré was a bit shaken up against GMP, and that was in night-session conditions that were clearly in his favor.

We know the Italian still hasn’t found his best level again, and very readily admits he doesn’t have the same ambitions as last season given his current level. He’s going to have to be clutch.

He’s lucky: they’re playing on a Sunday on a packed Campo Centrale with rainy, slightly cold weather. Enough to let him stretch the rallies a bit, put Cerundolo in a tense atmosphere, and push him into making a few errors. Because yes, even if Fran plays some very high-level matches here and there, I think he’s never far from playing an inconsistent match. And that’s the whole issue, because if I’m wrong about this assumption and in reality we should see it as him gaining momentum, then that would be a shame because in that case, he’s clearly above the current Musetti.
